The two hurdles for any overseas dentist who wishes to work as a dentist in Australia are:

  1. Getting qualifications recognised and
  2. getting a work visa

Qualifications

Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa and the US are eligible to participate in the public sector dental workforce scheme. Those eligible will be granted an exemption from the ADC Preliminary Examination and a form of restricted registration to enable them to practice in the public sector for a period of up to 3 years during which time the ADC Final Examination must be undertaken. For more information click here.

All other qualifications may need to complete Australian Dental Council (ADC) or New Zealand Council (NZDC) requirements/exams in order to practice in Australia.
